Physical Appearance:
Had he lived a different life he might have had soft pale skin, but years of hard work under the sun has given him a tanned, olive complexion. He has dark chestnut hair, a deep blue eyes which are very expressive, though the rest of his face is hard to read. He has a scar on his cheek that acts much like a dimple, the result to his capture as a youth. He is tall and carries himself well, with confidence in his body. He seems most natural on a horse.

Personality:
Caden is the strong silent type, and few know his true thoughts on a given matter. He is loyal to the end, and once he feels indebted to you he won’t ever betray that trust. It takes him a while to feel he can trust people who have not proved themselves to him, and he holds a grudge for a long time. He is committed, and inventive, with an attitude that will not allow him to give up.

Background

Life before Daingerfield:
Born to traveling settler, Caden spent much of his early years moving from place to place. His father was determined to find a brave new land to claim for his family, and finally settled in what would later be known as California. He and his growing family established a small farm, and were prosperous for some time, and would have remained so if only their father had given thought to the ‘former’ occupants of the their land. For many years the family had problems with the native people whom they had displaced, and after one violent encounter in which he adamantly refused to move the family, killing one of the natives, Caden’s life changed drastically.

Several days had passed and the family had heard nothing from the natives, assuming that they had finally succeeded in driving them off. That night they were attacked, and Caden, then nine, had been taken, while the rest of his family was killed. He bares a scar on his face from his struggles that night, though if he were asked about them now he would claim it was far more recent, the result of a nasty brawl with a sand pirate.

Caden (renamed Shilah) was raised by the natives, and while they treated him kindly he was continually trying to escape. It was many years before he deduced that he had been taken to replace the young man who had been killed in the fight with his father, and eventually he became, if not happy, content with his life in the tribe.

How did they come to Daingerfield:
Caden and several of the men were on a hunting expedition, when they had the misfortune of finding themselves under the attack of a band of sand pirates. His tribe mates were killed or mortally wounded, and Caden, injured, was faced with the choice of returning to the tribe or finally making his escape. He urged his horse in the opposite direction of their home, riding for days. He eventually slipped into darkness, his injuries and lack of water taking their hold, but the horse continued and when Caden awoke he found himself in Daingerfield, wounds tended to and horse watered.

Surviving Daingerfield:
He had been tended to by Edric Bell, and was given a place at his ranch while he recovered. He spoke little when he first awoke, and to this day is very quiet in his mannerisms, not entirely used to being back among his own people. He has felt indebted to Edric from the start, and has proved numerous times that he would lay down his life for the man.

He has adjusted well to life in the town since his arrival a year ago, cutting his hair and trying to look the part.

He is a good rider, and a sharp shooter, with a grudge against the sand pirates, and has played an important role in helping Edric Bell achieve his level success here in Daingerfield. He is his confidant, and one of his more trustworthy men.
